THE MANY CIPHERS LOCATING FUTURE BABYLON (PT. 3)

The third in a series of three articles on the symbols identifying Mystery Babylon from Revelation 17.

“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.” (Revelation 13:1)

And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.” (Revelation 4:2)

The Wilderness’ Meaning According to the Classic Scholars

The common view of scholars commenting on the scripture in the nineteenth century was that the woman of Revelation 17 represents Papal Rome. But there was a consistent warning that the woman was any apostate church.

Rome declined in the sixth century A.D. and was followed by its near total desolation. Famous commentator on the scripture, Albert Barnes suggests this notion was the hidden meaning of the reference to the wilderness or desert in Revelation 17:3. “And they are seven kings: the five are fallen, the one is, … Read More

THE GREAT CITY BABYLON DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS

THE GREAT CITY BABYLON. WHY IS IT DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS?

So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. (Revelation 17:3)

And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. (Revelation 16:19)
